Welcome to the Parish of the Ascension!
We are a diverse worshipping community, rooted in the
Anglican tradition, in a covenant with God, called to address the
needs of persons living in the Mount Pearl area. If you do not yet have a faith
community, or if you are visiting the Mount Pearl area of Newfoundland and Labrador, we
invite you to come and meet God in Jesus through the ministry of
this faith community.
Word from Rev.'d Burrows for November 24 - 30, 2013
Today in the life of the Church we celebrate the reign of Christ the King. This celebration marks the end of the Church’s year, and we look forward to the advent of God among us, Emmanuel. When we honour Christ as king, we recognize that the rule of Christ is now and not yet. We live in a world where we proclaim Christ as Lord and salvation for the earth. We recognize that the earth is not all at peace, there is hardship, division, hostility and hurt in the world. We celebrate that God in Jesus helps us to gain perspective among the messiness in our daily existence. We celebrate that Jesus is ruler and Lord of all creation.
It seems in my daily existence, there are so many different factors that affect what I do and how I live my life. There are the factors of weather, finances, work, goals, family, health, government, education, and so on. Each of these factors has the potential to rule one’s decision making, deciding future, deciding actions on a daily basis. Today, as I celebrate the feast of Christ the King, I am reminded that while all these factors are important and essential in human life and interaction, there needs to be a focal point. The focal point for us as the baptized is Jesus. We are called to have Jesus rule our hearts, our actions, our paths in this, God’s world.
Let us celebrate with thanksgiving the gift of Jesus as King of all Creation. Let us honour Jesus, and shape our lives in response to his living, dying, and rising.
